Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, has urged that those who demand money from census officers before being tallied should stop doing so and believe such an act is disloyal and unacceptable.
On Monday, June 28, 2021, the formal start of the 2021 Population and Housing Census was announced.
Some census officers, on the other hand, have expressed dissatisfaction with the persistent requests for money made by some of the people they have spoken with.
Some enumerators also reported that some individuals demand money before allowing the authorities to enter their houses.
However, when census enumerators tallied his home as part of the current process, Dr. Bawumia told media that Ghanaians should view the census as a national duty.
“Those who have either refused to give answers or demanded payment from census enumerators are urged to cooperate rather than demand money. It is both a legal duty and a moral responsibility to perform the census.”
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has also requested that all Ghanaians cooperate with the enumerators who would visit their houses throughout the process.
The exercise will not accomplish its intended goal, according to President Akufo-Addo, unless the necessary collaboration is provided.
“Because the 2021 Population and Housing Census is such a vital activity, I am urging all Ghanaians to work with the census enumerators and authorities. They are doing a very essential and delicate task, and we all need to work together to assist them.”
“As a result, I’m pleading with all of us to work with them so that we may have a successful 2020/2021 census, since we all know why it was postponed from last year. We want this to be a success and give us with the data we need for planning.”
