The International Board Chair of Amnesty International, Dr. Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah has lauded the decision by the Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD) of the University of Cape Coast to partner with amnesty international towards the creation of a comprehensive approach to prevention of and response to this challenging human rights concern as part of activities to strengthen and increase the awareness of potential victims on their rights with regards to any form of gender-based violence.
He said the decision by amnesty international to partnership with UCC CEGRAD is as a result of the demonstrable abilities demonstrated by CEGRAD towards addressing Sexual and Gender based violence on campus.
Sexual and gender-based violence continues to be a pervasive phenomenon with the majority of reported cases occurring in all environments.
These acts of violence can lead to serious consequences to physical and psychological health and social well-being.
Speaking exclusively to ATL FM NEWS after an interaction with the leadership of CEGRAD, Dr. Adzahlie-Mensah hinted that Amnesty International identified CEGRAD as a group that have been working on sexual and gender based violence issues, hence the partnership.
“They do research, advocacy and documentations so we taught that they are a group that are already thinking about issues we want to think about or work on. We want to partner with them to do the project”, he added
Director of CEGRAD, Dr Georgina Yaa Oduro said the she was optimimstic the partnership when finally concluded will enhance the centre’s zeal in achieving its mandates.
