The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) has requested that the National Security Ministry take immediate measures to educate the media and the general public about the activities of its organization.
This follows the Ministry‘s probe into the officers’ actions following the arrest and assault of Citi News’ Caleb Kudah, as well as the harassment of Zoe Abu Baidoo Addo, a Citi FM journalist.
After acknowledging that its officers behaved improperly and withdrawing the secondment of four officers from the National Security Ministry to face more investigation and disciplinary action, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Agyeman, the immediate past Director of Operations at the National Security Ministry, has been appointed as the Commanding Officer of the 64 Infantry Battalion.
GIBA President Andrew Danso-Aninkora said during a visit to solidify with the management of Citi TV and Citi FM that such a development will be a step in the right direction.
According to him, the media and the citizenry must be fully engaged in order to enable Ghanaians recognize the operation of the country’s defense infrastructure.

“The Ministry is conducting an inquiry into what I think was internal, and they have the right to do so; moreover, they will have to continue interacting, particularly with the media, to aid in the comprehension of the security infrastructure of this nation, as well as the entire security architecture of this country. I assume we must specifically determine who owns where, where the military crosses over, when the police cross over, and where the combination of the two is needed. Both of these questions, in my opinion, need to be addressed directly.”
