The University of Cape Coast Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana, Sandy Kumi-Sinatra say members of the Association are determined not to resume work until negotiations are met and their requests granted.
This comes at the back of the resumption of a nationwide strike following the failure of government to meet the demands of the Senior Staff Association.
The intended strike comes on the back of government’s inability to pay the tier-2 pension arrears, market premiums, and non-basic allowances of members after they called off a similar action earlier this year.
According to the Chairman of the Association, Zakaria Mohammed, government has consistently failed to address their concerns despite earlier promises.
Speaking on the ATLANTIC WAVE yesterday, Mr. Kumi-Sinatra said notwithstanding the commitment of the National Executive Council to engage the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on conditions of service, members will not return to work.

“We want to get the interest on the principal government has given us. Again, we want government to immediately call as through the Fare Wages and Salaries Commission to negotiate on our conditions of service. Moreover, we want government to award us a market premium while we again engage the Fare Wages and Salaries Commission to negotiate for the non-basic allowance. Our purchasing power has reduced and thus, there is no way we can come back to our old state without pushing for these demands,” he stated.
He further noted that members who refuse to comply with the directives will be sanctioned accordingly.
“We do not enjoy going on strike but it has become necessary that we embark on this strike and thus, if a member betrays the association by coming to office, it means, the member does not have the interest of the association at heart,” he indicated.
