The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has collaborated with Milla Odartei Lamptey, also known as Gasmilla, as part of ongoing campaigns to rid the region of filth and render Accra clean.
The relationship is focused on using the musician’s brand to raise public awareness and education about the importance of behavioral improvement in the pursuit of a clean and serene city.
The Afro-pop singer-songwriter was recently appointed a Vodafone Green Ambassador for his initiatives to promote safe beaches, among other things.
During a courtesy call by Gasmilla on Monday to confirm the partnership, AMA CEO Mohammed Adjei Sowah said that music was a strong instrument for inspiring people and encouraging them to take action.
He observed that people’s negative views had been deeply entrenched over time, and that reforming them would necessitate rigorous education and sensitization, thus the collaboration.
He claimed that the Assembly chose to collaborate with the ‘Telemo’ hitmaker because of his ambassadorial status and prior sanitation programs.
” We have done a number of education and sensitization campaigns, so now we are welcoming celebrities and prominent figures in society to be a part of the overall effort… We realized that Gasmilla is interested in environmental sanitation and is a brand spokesperson for a cooperating organization, so we asked him to join us in our next leg of the initiative as part of our initiatives to increase education and transform attitudes,” he added.
He expressed his commitment and that of the city to the partnership and stressed the need for other celebrities to emulate the move by Gasmilla.
“We have been firmly ingrained and stuck in our negative behavior for years, and changing it takes the usage of coercion, but education is also important,” he said.
The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, urged Gasmilla to mobilize his colleagues with similar visions to embrace the fight because the more personalities there are, the simpler it would be to succeed.
Nii Odartei Milla Lamptey clarified that he wanted to work with the AMA to clean up Accra because it was the country’s gateway and needed to be clean in order to draw more tourists.

“I agree that if you train a child in the way he should go, he will not depart from it when he grows, so we can continue and train and inform children and youth about how to keep their environment clean… “We want to mobilize the youth and community representatives to accomplish this goal,” he said.
Gasmilla, also known as the International Fisherman, is a Ghanaian Hiplife artist well known for his hit singles ‘Aboodatoi’ and ‘Telemo.’
