Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, has called for an impartial inquiry into allegations made by Citi FM and Citi TV Journalist Caleb Kudah that he was attacked by certain National Security operatives while in their custody.
According to him, the suspected agency cannot be allowed to conduct its own investigation.
Mr. Caleb Kudah was detained on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, for filming several abandoned MASLOC cars parking on the National Security Ministry’s grounds.
Mrs. Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo, another Citi Journalist, was also apprehended later in a raid at the Citi FM/Citi TV premises for collecting any files from Caleb Kudah.
Mr. Caleb Kudah, following his release, recalled his traumatic encounters with National Security operatives.
The host of Backpage on Citi TV even claims that intelligence agents slapped him many times and physically assaulted him.
He also said that one of the security guards hit him in the groin.
However, in response to the accusations, the Ministry vowed to take corrective action if the allegations were proven to be accurate.
It has stated that it has begun an inquiry into the matter.
“The Ministry takes the accusations of manhandling of the two journalists during the interrogation quite seriously. As a result, the Ministry has launched an inquiry into the alleged allegations,” the Ministry said in a statement.
Mr. Ablakwa, on the other hand, is opposed to the Ministry’s decision.

Allowing the suspected agency to conduct its own investigation, he claims, would “instill faith and let the public trust the result as credible.”
“An independent investigation into the alleged brutalities against Caleb and the traumatic experience Zoe was exposed to, not National Security investigating itself, is the only process that will engender confidence and make the public trust the outcome as a credible one.”
“The Akufo-Addo Administration must stop this incestuous charade by showing real commitment.”
On Thursday, May 13, 2021, the North Tongu legislator made the announcement via his social media accounts.
