Former Deputy Minister for Power, John Jinapor, claims that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has “failed abysmally” in keeping campaign promises.
He claims that the party’s platform pledges made in the run-up to the 2016 and 2020 general elections have not been fulfilled.
The remarks by the Yapei-Kusawgu Member of Parliament come on the heels of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s announcement of a list of 70 problems that the Akufo-Addo-led government has tackled since taking power, in response to popular outrage over the country’s economic condition.
“In only one year, the government has imposed nine separate taxes though claiming to be reducing taxes. Fuel prices have risen by more than 30 percent since January, despite the fact that the document claims fuel prices are at an all-time low. The group was a flop. Go no further than the Zongo Development Fund to see the epitome of disappointment. They talk about 1D1F, but they haven’t been able to do even 10% of it in four years, according to Mr Jinapor on Eyewitness News on Thursday night.
According to John Jinapor, “this is a government that vowed to make Accra the cleanest country.” This is a colossal and abysmal embarrassment, and yet he has the audacity to speak for health-care infrastructure growth. This government hasn’t built a single hospital in four years, and yet the Vice President has the audacity to release this list.”

The legislator went on to say that the government should focus its efforts on improving the lives of Ghanaians rather than citing fictitious victories.
“Dr. Bawumia has absolutely missed it beyond the economic ideas he has been discussing. He’s just out of touch. He could leave the safety of his office and go out into the streets to feel the pulse of the nation. He’s pounding his chest and declaring that Ghana’s challenges have been fixed in an unparalleled manner.”
“Things are challenging in this country, and I believe that the sooner Dr. Bawumia awakens and starts to act, the better. This hooting of horns, blowing of trumpets, and writing down such 70 non-existent milestones is a hasty inference fallacy. What he is suggesting is far-fetched and contradictory to reality,” John Jinapor opined.
