The Begoro District Police Command is on the lookout for four individuals who attacked a Metro Mass Transit bus with the registration number GT 3389 – Z at the Begoro police checkpoint on Monday, May 3, 2021.
The four armed men allegedly robbed passengers of the Metro Mass Transit bus of GHS36,480.00 in cash and nine mobile phones.
The police report that their officers on duty were not at post at the time of the incident.
“The padlock on the police barricade was left open, allowing the criminals entry to the room, where they set up their own barriers and robbed the passengers of the above-mentioned amounts of money and phones, as well as beating some of the victims at gunpoint,” police added in a statement.
The bus driver, George Asante, told the police that they were unable to identify the men because they were wearing nose masks.
Additionally, the police said that at “7:40 a.m. on the same day, a taxi driver by the name of George Ankomah came to the charge office and confirmed that he, along with three passengers, were robbed of GHS4,200 and a cell phone at the exact place.”
They indicated, however, that they discovered their belongings at the crime scene after the armed robbers escaped.
