The Central Regional Police Command says it has intensified security presence at Kasoa and the millennium divisions in the Central Region which according to the Regional Commander, DCOP Habiba Twumasi-Sarpong, forms part of their effort to curb criminal operations at the area following recent robbery and murder cases recorded in the town.
At a press briefing at the Regional Headquarters yesterday, DCOP outlined the security measure that have been put place by the police so far.
She assured citizens particularly those within Kasoa and its environs that the police will do their best to guarantee their safety.
She indicated that “more men have been sent to augment the strength of the personnel at the two divisions to help with operations to help with operations. Vehicular, motor kike and foot patrols have been intensified. The police in collaboration with opinion leaders are negotiating to form more community watch committees. More informants have cultivated to help with information sharing. Very soon there will be introduction of tent cities to be closer to the public. We want to assure the people of the central region especially Kasoa that the police is in control and they should be rest assured”.
On the murder of a middle-aged man at Kasoa Opeikuma junction traffic light on March 31 by unidentified persons on motorbike, she indicated that the Kasoa Divisional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder.
She said the suspect Eric Asare was caught at his hideout on Monday at Buduburam upon intelligence gathered by the police.
“On 19th April, the Kasoa Divisional Police Command April based on intelligence arrested suspect Eric Asare at his hideout at Buduburam in connection to the murder/robbery of the deceased Stephen Entsi at Opeikuma junction, Kasoa. Meanwhile the suspect is yet to be put before court” she added.
DCOP Habiba Twumasi-Sarpong further hinted to the media that a 43-year-old man in possession of fake currency has been arrested at Estate Junction in Kasoa
The suspect, Kofi Appiah alias Dacosta, was arrested on Tuesday in possession of bundles of 50 cedi notes and some dollar notes suspected to be fake.
According to DCOP Habiba Twumasi-Sarpong, the Divisional Police upon a search in the suspect’s apartment uncovered several fake currencies after interrogations.
