The European Union (EU) Election Observer Mission’s study on Ghana’s 2020 general elections vindicates the Electoral Commission (EC) and its Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa, according to Mr. Collins Adomako Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Kwabre North in the Ashanti Region.
According to the study, Ghana’s 2020 election was free and fair.
“The elections were well-organized, competitive, and voters turned out in significant numbers, and the procedures followed a variety of international standards,” according to the paper.
The observer mission’s paper, according to the Afigya Kwabre North legislator, is appropriate since it confirms earlier reports issued by other organizations that have observed the mechanism in Ghana.

“I believe this is not the first time the EU has sent observers to track our [Ghana’s] polls. But the conclusions they [EU] made were affirmed by the AU, ECOWAS, CODEO, and the Atta Mills Institute that indeed the 2020 election was free and fair. Of course, our NDC allies disagreed with those conclusions, but I’m glad the EU has reaffirmed our conviction that the Jean Mensa administration held the most peaceful and orderly elections Ghana has seen since the Fourth Republic. They [EU] also made some recommendations which they will be meeting with stakeholders to deliberate on, but the conclusions are that the polls were free and fair, and it should settle the matter.”
On Thursday, April 15, 2021, Mr. Adomako Mensah made these remarks on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily program.
Sam Nartey George, a Ningo Prampram MP who was also on the show, disagreed with Adomako Mensah.
He believes the EC Chairperson should withdraw for failure to hold a transparent election for Ghanaians.
“Jean Mensa [would have] resigned in the 2020 polls if it weren’t for the partisan coloration of this nation and the way we look at it since the NDC says she bloated figures and the NPP also claims she bloated figures,” he said. Mr. Mac Manu said that Mr. Mahama’s numbers were inflated, and Asiedu Nketia claimed thatAkufo-Addo’s statistics were inflated as well.”
“Clearly, there are certain structural issues with the EC’s procedures, and it is critical that they be addressed,” he said.
