The Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, has directed the Central Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service to investigate allegations of the exhumation of dead bodies by an officer in Gomoa Fawomaye.
The allegations were levelled against Superintendent Robert Kobil by the chiefs and people of Gomoa Fawomaye in the Central Region at a press conference.
Supt. Kobil, who is said to hail from Gomoa Kyirem in the Gomoa West District, was accused of exhuming over 10 dead bodies from a cemetery in Gomoa Fawomaye and bolting with them.
A statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs at the Service, Supt. Sheila Kessie Abayie-Buckman, noted that IGP Oppong-Boanuh has appealed “to Nananom of Gomoa Fawomaye to cooperate with the Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mrs Habiba Twumasi-Sarpong, in the investigation of the matter”.
Nonetheless, the police administration has called for calm among the general public, especially the chiefs and residents of Gomoa Fawomaye.
