On Friday, March 27, 2021, a 47-year-old man was stabbed to death by a neighbor over a cigarette stick in Adenta, Accra.

Kwabena Amponsah was stabbed several times in the head, ribs, and hands by a suspect called Isaac Brown, who is reportedly on the run.

The Accra Regional Police Command‘s Head of Public Relations Unit, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge said.

She reported that on March 27, 2021, at approximately 1000 hours, the deceased’s mother lodged a formal complaint with the Adenta Police Station claiming that her son, Amponsah, was stabbed to death with a knife by someone on the same day at approximately 0930 hours.

“Police arrived at Adenta Sakora No.5 and discovered the body of a man aged around 47, clad in black jeans and a red and black ‘T’ shirt lying in a prone position, dead,” she added.

“The body was closely examined and identified with several fresh knife wounds on the head, left ribs, and both hands,” DSP Tenge said.

According to preliminary investigations, the deceased and the perpetrator, Isaac Brown, were drinking at a local bar when someone purchased a cigarette for the suspect.

“That the deceased reportedly took the suspect’s cigarette, culminating in verbal arguments between them that devolved into a blow-for-blow exchange.”

Mrs Tenge said they were split and the deceased went home, but that the perpetrator pursued him and inflicted several knife wounds on him a few minutes later.

“Brown bolted on an unnamed motor bike after performing the dastardly deed,” she wrote.

Mrs Tenge said that after taking photos of the scene and the body, the body was transferred and deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The Head of the Public Affairs Unit stated that attempts were being made to collect valuable evidence that would contribute to the suspect’s arrest and prosecution under the statute.
