The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from a faction posing as party cadres seeking transparency from the party’s 2020 presidential candidate, John Mahama.
At a press conference on Tuesday, the group also requested that Mr. Mahama deliver the party’s independently compiled election results from the December 2020 elections.
It gave the NDC leadership a 14-day deadline to deliver collated figures or the pink papers.
However, Deputy General Secretary Peter Boamah Otokunor said that the group’s appeal “should be dismissed and viewed with all the scorn it merits.”
“We are a political party that takes its responsibilities very seriously. We don’t make any jokes. We are not a support group. We are unfamiliar with the party. In reality, I won’t give them the respect of looking at what they’ve written,” he said on Eyewitness News on Wednesday.
Mr. Otokunor also questioned the legitimacy of the party calling itself the Cadres for Accountable Leadership.
“That organisation does not exist. It’s just a figment of someone’s imagination. Someone only made that to cause trouble, and I believe they should be handled with the disrespect they deserve,” he added.
Mr. Mahama is coming off an unsuccessful election petition in which he attempted to compel a run-off election in 2020 after arguing, among other things, that the Electoral Commission padded President Akufo-vote Addo’s count.
The party announced that in order to get their demands fulfilled, they must hold a series of rallies to express their displeasure.
It also demanded that the NDC apologize to the Electoral Commission if the statements in the election petition were incorrect.
