Harriet Kafui Ahiati, a 25-year-old student, was reportedly murdered by her boyfriend on Monday night for motives that are still under investigation by the police.
After the attack, which occurred about 2200 hours, the boyfriend, Jay Dordorye, a famous footballer, was discovered with deep knife cuts in the throat and stomach.
The incident was reported by Superintendent of Police Anthony Danso, Ho Municipal Commander, who said the police were investigating the case to determine the truth.
Mr Christian Besah Tsotorvor, a son of Harriet’s mother’s landlord, informed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Harriet and her boyfriend had a misunderstanding at about 2200 hours on Monday.
He said they noticed sounds in the house shortly after midnight on Tuesday, which they pursued and saw several women in the house searching for Harriet’s mother’s apartment.
He reported that when the women broke down the door and entered the room, they discovered Harriet lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut in her throat.
“We saw a cut on the boyfriend’s rib and neck, and we believe he intended to kill himself after murdering the woman,” he said.
According to Mr Tsotorvor, the police were sent to pick up both Dordorye for medical treatment and Harriet’s corpse, which was taken to the Ho Teaching Hospital’s morgue.
The pair had been dating for more than six years, according to Harriet’s mother, dating back to when Harriet was in her third year of junior high school.
“I had no idea the two had any significant problems before last night. She said, “I just returned from my trip to see a mob here in my home and my daughter dead in a pool of blood.”
Mr Amos Adzah, the Ho Teaching Hospital’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to GNA, said the young man was reportedly undertaking surgery to resuscitate him.
