The Head of Disasters for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Cape Coast North Sub-Metro, Mr. Prince Kwame Odame says the Central Regional NADMO looks forward to end 2021 without recording any disasters.

According to him, the Regional office recorded a marginal decrease in the various incidence of disasters and its related fatalities in the last two quarters of 2020 and this he said is because of the various preventive measures the organization put in place.

Speaking on the ATLANTIC WAVE, Mr. Odame noted that constant involvement of residence in their activities is also a sure way to achieve their goal of preventing both the incidence and the economic risk of disasters in the Region.

“Our ultimate aim is to have an end of year without any incidence of disaster and so we are still engaging the entire Metropolis because the issue of disaster management is not solely a matter of the NADMO,” he said.

He added” It is a more collaborative issue that requires the effort of all and sundry to come together in order to identify issues that deemed perilous to the lives of people within the Metropolis.

Speaking on reducing flooding incidences in the Cape Coast Metropolis, he indicated that every area has been considered flood prone and thus the organization is intensifying its efforts to ensure that less or no flooding is recorded as the rains set in.

“In the past, we appreciated and outlined a string of communities that have been identified as flood prone areas within the Cape Coast Metropolis. However, recent trends have indicated that virtually the non-traditional areas we knew were safe in times of flooding have all become areas of concern and in this year going forward we have actually identified all communities within the Metropolis as areas of concern in order for us to reach wide and also ensure the safety of people,” he stated.
