The contents of a textbook intended for use by lower primary students have been identified as offensive by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.
He pointed out that some of the textbook’s contents made negative references and innuendos against Ewes.
Togbe Hodo, in a statement issued after the contents of the textbook were brought to the attention of the Regional House of Chiefs, said the contents were distasteful and an embarrassment to the writers and publishers of the material intended to educate the country’s younger generations.
“We find it deeply reprehensible that the perpetrators of this heinous publication harbor such foul thoughts about their fellow Ghanaians in the twenty-first century.”
He stated that the House of Chiefs “unconditionally condemns” the display of tribal bigotry and racism, and that those responsible for the publication should remove it from circulation and destroy all copies.
They also requested an unqualified apology from the writers and publishers of the base content, which would be delivered to all Ewe-speaking people of Ghana, according to the President.

Togbe Tepre Hodo urged other ethnic groups in the country to reject such divisive publications, which he said only served to create confusion and division.
“The Chiefs and people of Ewe ethnic origin will take effective legal action to ensure that these mischief-makers walk on the right side of the law,” he said, if the “ill-advised publication” is discovered somewhere after their demand for it to be removed from circulation.
