The Komenda College of Education has held its maiden Founders Day celebration to honour the efforts of the founding fathers of the school.
Mr Abraham Brew Sam, Nana Komeh Ababio VI and Mr L.A Creedy were among the pioneers who championed and sustained the growth of the school since its establishment in 1948.
Delivering the maiden Sam-Creedy Ababio memorial lecture as part of the founders day celebration, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh who is also an old student of the school called on both student staff and old students of the school to keep the legacies of the founding fathers alive by striving for excellence and maintaining the high standard of moral discipline the school has been noted for.
“Let us first hang on the pillars of or values because they embody the totality of what we want to achieve. KOSA, the Methodist Church, the Council, Management of the College and the Ministry of Education must also work together in order to physically and intellectually develop the College because we are the main stakeholders.”
“We have a responsibility to make the College a better place than we came to. We need to commit our funds, our knowledge and our networks to support the Management. We need to be selfless because we owe it to Komenda College. We should never forget the hand that fed us.” She said.

She further charged stakeholders of the school to continuously prioritize the development of the School by using the appropriate techniques to lobby for development.
“Presently there is a lot of politicking that goes on in the governing of the Colleges of Education in Ghana. Is not strange that our College was given programmes that do not get a lot of students for admission and we were jumped over UCC to another University for affiliation? It is not that I doubt the supervision capabilities of the University we are affiliated to but the Church could have lobbied for more. Our College is looking up to the Methodist Church for support in the future”.
“For the Council and Management of Komenda College of Education, we encourage you to forge ahead with lobbying at GETFUND and thankfully the Chairperson of the ceremony will help us to lobby at our developmental partners for infrastructure and capacity building,” she indicated.
Prof Edu-Buandoh went on to commend the National Executive Committee (NEC) for their efforts in ensuring the wellbeing of students on campus and urged them to keep it up.
The ceremony hosted dignitaries from the Methodist church and past students of the school. The occasion was also used to commission a new entrance gate for the school and a refurbished ICT Centre
