Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, a former Member of Parliament from the Buem Constituency in the Oti Region, has characterized Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a self-eulogizing president.
Mr. Ashiamah says he was taken aback by President Akufo-eulogies Addo’s for himself and the NPP administration during the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) on Tuesday.
He was perplexed as to why the President would brag about himself and his government’s successes at any given time, forgetting that he was sworn into that high office for a reason.
On Yen Sempa on Onua FM on Wednesday, March 10, the former lawmaker criticized President Akufo-Addo for claiming to have spearheaded the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law and the passage of the Right to Information (RTI) Bill.
The former Buem MP wants the president to pay more attention to the law’s usability and efficacy in accomplishing its goals.
He claimed that the Criminal Libel Law has been abolished, but that journalists have been harassed repeatedly under his administration, and that the Right to Information Act is not readily available.
“The question is not whether I made laws; it is whether the laws are working to achieve their goals,” he said, and what is the President doing about it?
“That is why I see Nana Addo as a self-eulogizing president whenever he talks about enacting laws.”
Nana Akufo-Addo has contributed to Ghana’s growth as President, according to Kwesi Ashiamah, but he must walk the talk when it comes to enacting legislation.
