Tree Aid, an International Development Organization operating in Northern Ghana, has donated  three shea butter processing centers to three different women’s groups at three different communities in the Kassena-Nankanna district of the Upper East Region.

The NGO under its ‘Grow Hope Project’ helped to finance the women’s groups responsible for building the processing centers to complete them and install the necessary equipment which aids in the processing of quality shea butter.

The beneficiary communities are Nyangua and Biu in the Kassena-Nankana Municipal and Chiana-Abolo in the Kassena-Nankana West District.

The project started in 2018 and is being facilitated by the Organization for Indigenous Initiatives and Sustainability (ORGIIS), a local NGO which focuses on the environment. It is funded by funds from an international relief organization.

Mr Jonathan A. Naaba, the Country Programmes Manager, Tree Aid, clarified that while the women groups began building the processing facilities, Tree Aid provided and built all the necessary processing machinery including crashers, kneaders, miller, roasters, accessories and motors for the powering of the equipment.

Engineer Naaba reported that the equipment costed GHC108,000.00

Mr. Adagenera, director of ORGIIS Ghana, also announced that the organization has partnered with Tree Aid and its partners to provide training and technical assistance to poor people.

Mr Adagenera hoped the processing centres would increase production and satisfy demand, and that he would continue to have market links to his products.

Mr Alhassan Abdul-Baqi, the Development Planning Officer of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly reported that women are advised to maintain the machines for acquired productivity.

Madam Mary Baduriwo expressed appreciation for ORGIIS Ghana, Tree Aid and their collaborators for their work and dedication to extend and grow the project.

Mr Clifford Amoah Adagenera, the Programs Manager, ORGIIS Ghana, indicated that in partnership with Tree Aid and its partners, ORGIIS has been able to promote the economic benefits of trees through training and technical assistance to poor women.

Mr Adagenera expressed hope that the processing centres would help increase supply and meet demand and vowed to continue to provide market ties to their goods.

Mr Alhassan Abdul-Baqi, the Development Planning Officer of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly urged the women to maintain the machines to keep them in good working order for continued productivity.

Madam Mary Baduriwo confirmed how thankful she is to ORGIIS Ghana, Tree Aid and their partners for their support and made a commitment to use the facilities to improve productivity.
