In their third group match of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League, Ampem Darkoa Ladies defeated Huracanes FC on Sunday night thanks to two goals from youngster Tracey Twum, securing a semifinal berth.

The WAFU B champions responded admirably to their Thursday setback to AS Mande, which allowed them to move on to the next round of the league where they will take on debutants SC Casablanca, after they had only won once and lost once in their first two games.

The Ghanaian team won 3-1 over Huracanes to secure first place in Group B.

In the ninth minute of play, attacker Tracey Twum gave Ampem Darkoa Ladies the lead. Twum skillfully scored on a free kick following Jennifer Owusuaa’s foul near the penalty area.

Huracanes gained momentum, though, and the WAFU B champions were unable to capitalize on their lead to dictate the game’s pace.

Deborah Brown, who was making her debut for the team, twice held the Equatorial Guinea team to keep her team in the match.

After being put through by Linda Owusu Ansah, Twum had a chance to score her second goal of the match, but she missed the post with her attempt.

Twum’s goal gave the Nana Mma a 1-0 lead at the half, and they were lucky not to have let it slip.

Following the break, Ampem Darkoa Ladies nearly doubled their lead, but the Huracanes goalkeeper stopped Twum’s square pass intended for Maybel Amoyaw.

Following the goal scorer’s outstanding move down the left, Owusuaa had another chance to score the second, but his shot narrowly missed.

In the 60th minute, Brwon in goal for Ampem Darkoa deflected a long-range strike against the crossbar, denying Huracanes their chance to equalize.

The Techiman-based team nearly increased the advantage following a string of Huracanes attempts, but a free kick attempt from a few yards off the penalty box struck the crossbar and the rebound was cleared away.

Twum scored her second goal of the match off a rebound as the Ghanaians struck the crossbar once more. This time, there was no stopping her.

2-0 for Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

To guarantee that she cushioned the lead for Ampem Darkoa Ladies, the forward raced the fastest. Once more, Owusuaa’s effort was what the goalkeeper was unable to handle.

In the 84th minute, Twum scored the third goal for the Ghanaian team, playing through replacement Gnabekan N-Yanimaya, forcing Brown into yet another outstanding save of the game.

It’s 3 and it’s surely done.

Huracanes nearly soon pulled one back, but it was little comfort given that Ampem Darkoa Ladies won 3-1.

Ampem Darkoa will now take on SC Casablanca, another rookie team that placed second in Group A during the previous four.
