The Ghana Medical Association is lauding government for the extension of the ban on social gathering for three more weeks.
President Akufo-Addo Sunday night announced the extension of the ban in the wake of a surge in Ghana’s case count of the virus to 4, 700. He noted that five hundred and thirty-three (533) out of the nine hundred and twenty-one (921) new cases recorded between last Wednesday and Thursday were factory workers from a fish processing factory located in Tema with the rest of the cases coming from backlogs dating as far back as 26th April.
Some Christian bodies in the past week mounted pressure on government to lift the ban on social gathering while detailing intended measurers to be employed by the church to reduce the spread of the virus.
However, President of the GMA, Dr. Frank Ankobea beliefs the current decision by government is in the right direction. According to him, the extension is crucial to revealing the daily trend of the spread of the virus.
Dr. Ankobea also bemoaned the attitude of some Ghanaians who refuse to adhere to preventive protocols against the spread of the virus. He called for a possible enforcement of strict measures.

The Ghana Association was among a number of bodies that earlier had cautioned government against lifting the ban on public gatherings given the increasing number of Coronavirus infections in the country.
According to the association, the seeming disregard for all the preventive measures against the contraction and prevention of the virus still places the country at risk of recording more cases, hence, the need for government to stay the enforcement of the ban.
