Residents of the Kakumdo and nearby communities in the Cape Coast Metropolis can now access better healthcare closer to their areas following the official upgrade of the local CHPS compound to a full Health Centre.
The announcement was made at a ceremony on Monday, September 28, 2026, attended by chiefs and elders of the area, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, and the Metropolitan Director of Health Services, Mr. Samuel Ofosu, among other stakeholders.
Highlighting the impact of the upgrade, the Metropolitan Director of Health Services, Mr. Samuel Ofosu, said the new status of the facility will provide expanded healthcare services and handle referrals from surrounding communities.
He, however, noted that additional equipment and supplies are still needed to fully equip the facility for its expanded role, while also urging the health workers to maintain high standards of professionalism and patient care.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, George Justice Arthur, said the facility had received the necessary support from the government to facilitate its upgrade.
He disclosed that the Dankwakrom Health Centre is similarly being expanded into a polyclinic to improve healthcare delivery in the metropolis.
Looking ahead, Mr. Arthur shared that beginning January 2027, the Assembly plans to channel funds earmarked for the construction of new CHPS compounds into providing additional facilities and infrastructure for existing health centres.
The MCE also announced plans for the construction of a national data centre at Kakumdo and a 24-hour economy market in the Cape Coast North.
According to him, land for the project had already been secured through the support of the traditional authorities in the area.
The new Health Centre is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery and reduce the burden on residents who previously had to travel farther to access certain health services.
