The Black Stars have secured a major financial boost ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign after government approved the release of GH¢76.4 million to support the national team’s preparations and participation in the tournament.
A statement issued by the Presidency said the funds were released through the Ministry of Finance to facilitate preparations, cover competition-related expenses and settle outstanding qualification bonuses owed to players and members of the technical team.
The support package underscores government’s commitment to ensuring the Black Stars have the resources required to compete effectively on football’s biggest stage.
GH¢58.9 Million Released for Preparations
According to the statement, GH¢58,929,500, the cedi equivalent of US$5 million, has been released as an advance payment to support the team’s preparations and cover expenses related to the group stage matches.
The funding is expected to cater for logistical arrangements, training activities and other operational requirements necessary for Ghana’s participation in the tournament.
Officials say the allocation is intended to ensure the team remains fully focused on its World Cup campaign.
Outstanding Bonuses Settled
Government has also released GH¢17,537,419.20, equivalent to US$1.488 million, to settle outstanding qualification bonuses due players and the technical team.
The Presidency explained that under the performance-based agreement reached during the qualification campaign, players were paid 50 percent of their bonuses during the qualifiers, with the remaining balance becoming payable after Ghana secured qualification to the World Cup.
The latest payment fulfils that commitment and clears outstanding obligations ahead of the tournament.
Government Reaffirms Commitment
The Presidency noted that the financial support reflects government’s commitment to supporting the Black Stars and ensuring they have the necessary resources to represent Ghana successfully at the global competition.
