Government has announced plans to complete 35 hospitals under the Agenda 111 project as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services across the country.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Annual Health Summit, where he outlined government’s strategy for expanding healthcare delivery and advancing universal health coverage.
According to the Minister, the hospital expansion programme remains a key priority in addressing infrastructure gaps and improving healthcare outcomes nationwide.
35 Hospitals in the Pipeline
Mr. Akandoh disclosed that 35 Agenda 111 hospitals are currently targeted for completion under government’s healthcare infrastructure programme.
He explained that 10 of the facilities are expected to be completed and operationalized by the end of 2026, while the remaining 25 hospitals will be delivered in subsequent phases.
The Minister noted that the additional facilities will help improve access to healthcare services and reduce pressure on existing hospitals across the country.
Expanding Access to Quality Healthcare
Government says the Agenda 111 initiative forms a critical part of efforts to ensure that quality healthcare services are accessible to all Ghanaians regardless of location.
According to the Health Minister, expanding healthcare infrastructure remains essential to achieving universal health coverage and addressing longstanding disparities in healthcare delivery.

He stressed that increasing the number of functional health facilities will help improve patient care and strengthen the overall healthcare system.
Private Sector and Faith-Based Partnerships
Mr. Akandoh revealed that government intends to collaborate with private sector institutions and faith-based organisations to support the operationalization and management of some of the hospitals.
He said such partnerships would help ensure efficient utilization of the facilities while enhancing service delivery and improving healthcare outcomes.
Government believes the collaboration will contribute to the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of the hospitals once they become operational.
Three New Regional Hospitals Planned
Beyond the Agenda 111 project, the Health Minister announced plans to construct three additional regional hospitals in the Savannah, Oti and Western regions.
The proposed facilities are expected to strengthen healthcare access in underserved areas and improve the availability of specialised medical services.
Cardiac Centres to Boost Specialised Care
As part of efforts to strengthen specialist healthcare services, government also plans to establish three cardiac centres across the country.
The centres are expected to improve the diagnosis and treatment of heart-related conditions while reducing pressure on existing specialist facilities.
Strengthening Ghana’s Healthcare System
Mr. Akandoh reiterated government’s commitment to investing in healthcare infrastructure as part of broader efforts to improve service delivery and strengthen the health sector.
He said the combined investment in hospitals, specialist centres and healthcare services reflects government’s determination to build a resilient healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of Ghana’s growing population.
Officials believe the completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals will significantly improve healthcare access and contribute to better health outcomes nationwide.
