Thousands of women and young people across Ghana are expected to benefit from a newly launched employment and entrepreneurship initiative designed to create jobs, strengthen enterprise development and promote economic inclusion.
The Ghana Women and Youth Employment and Social Cohesion (GWYESCO) Programme was officially launched in Accra as part of government’s broader efforts to tackle unemployment and expand opportunities for vulnerable groups.
The initiative is expected to support job creation, skills development, entrepreneurship and social cohesion while helping beneficiaries participate more actively in the economy.
Focus on Jobs and Economic Opportunities
Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei, described youth unemployment as one of the most pressing challenges facing Ghana and the wider African continent.
He expressed concern about the growing number of unemployed graduates and stressed that entrepreneurship remains a critical pathway for creating sustainable livelihoods.
According to him, Ghana’s development goals cannot be achieved if women and young people remain excluded from economic opportunities.
Supporting Entrepreneurs and Enterprise Growth
The programme is designed to support enterprise development and encourage entrepreneurship among beneficiaries.

The initiative is expected to help create sustainable jobs while promoting self-employment and innovation.
Results-Based Financing Model
Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund, Abass Nurudeen, explained that GWYESCO will operate under a results-based financing framework.
According to him, funding under the programme will be tied to measurable outcomes and verifiable results to ensure transparency, accountability and impact.
He said the approach will help ensure that resources generate tangible benefits for beneficiaries and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Government Reaffirms Commitment
Representing government at the event, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem reiterated government’s commitment to empowering women and youth through economic opportunities.
He noted that inclusive growth remains central to government’s economic transformation agenda and stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved if significant segments of the population remain economically excluded.
According to him, job creation, entrepreneurship, skills training and economic empowerment are key pillars of the Reset Agenda.
