The Central Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault and robbery of a final-year student of Adisadel College during an inter-schools sports event in Cape Coast.
The suspects were handed over to the Kotokuraba Police Station on February 20, 2026, by authorities of Aggrey Memorial SHS after reports emerged that they had attacked Rexford Owusu Ansah at Pedu Junction.
According to a police statement issued on February 24, preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred after the final day of an inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium. The victim was said to be leaving the venue with two friends when they were confronted by a group who allegedly demanded to know if they were students of Adisadel College before launching an attack.
Police indicated that while the victim’s friends managed to flee, he was overpowered and assaulted. The attackers allegedly made away with his iPhone 17 Pro Max, a pair of shoes and approximately GH¢1,400 in cash.
The injured student was initially treated at the stadium’s clinic and later referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where he was discharged on February 22. Medical reports show he sustained serious injuries, including a fracture near his right eye that left him unable to open it, with doctors expressing concern about potential damage to the eyeball.
The Central Regional Police Command has condemned the violence and assured the public that the case will be handled in accordance with the law. Authorities noted that although the suspects are juveniles, they will face legal consequences if found culpable. Investigations remain ongoing.
In a related development, the Ghana Police Service has arrested three students of Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) over the alleged assault of a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School during the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru.
The suspects, Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18 were handed over to the Swedru Divisional Police Command and subsequently arrested to assist with investigations, according to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The incident, which occurred on February 19, 2026, gained widespread attention after a video of the assault circulated on social media. Police say the victim sustained facial injuries, including a broken tooth, and was hospitalised. He has since publicly maintained that he did nothing to provoke the attack.
The arrests followed a directive from the Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, who reportedly gave school authorities a 24-hour ultimatum to produce the individuals captured in the viral footage.
Police say investigations into both incidents are ongoing as authorities intensify efforts to address violence at inter-school events.
