The United States Embassy in Accra has opened more than 1,000 additional non-immigrant visa appointment slots with immediate effect, giving Ghanaian applicants the chance to secure interview dates within the coming week.
The newly released slots largely cover B1/B2 visa categories, which are designated for business and tourism travel to the United States. According to the Embassy, many of the appointments are available right away, offering relief to applicants who have faced extended waiting periods in recent months.
In a public notice shared on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the Embassy urged prospective travellers to act promptly.
“There are more than 1,000 B1/B2 visa appointment slots available in the next week – one of those could be yours,” the statement said.
Applicants who already have interview dates scheduled for later in the year have also been encouraged to reschedule for earlier appointments if it suits their plans.

“Book a new appointment – or move up one scheduled for later in the year – we want to interview you now!” the Embassy added.
World Cup travel preparations
The announcement comes as part of broader U.S. preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. With heightened global travel anticipated for the tournament, U.S. authorities are working to increase visa processing capacity in key partner countries, including Ghana.
Ghana’s strong football culture and the Black Stars’ participation in international competitions are expected to drive significant travel interest among supporters seeking to attend the tournament.

Easing backlogs
The move is expected to ease pressure on Ghanaian travellers who have encountered longer appointment wait times in the past year. By releasing bulk interview slots in advance, the Embassy aims to streamline the process and reduce bottlenecks ahead of peak travel season.
Applicants have been advised to use only the official U.S. Embassy visa portal when booking appointments, to avoid third-party agents and fraudulent websites that may charge inflated or unnecessary fees.
The Embassy reminded applicants that securing an interview appointment does not guarantee visa approval. All applicants must meet standard eligibility requirements and successfully complete the interview process.
Prospective travellers are encouraged to visit the official U.S. Embassy Accra website for detailed guidance on visa requirements, documentation and application procedures.
