Embassy operations resume September 16
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MFA) has announced that Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran, Iran, will officially reopen on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, following its temporary closure earlier this year.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Ministry said the decision was based on an improved security environment in Iran’s capital, Tehran.
Closure linked to Iran–Israel conflict
Ghana suspended operations at its mission in Tehran on June 16, 2025, amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. The two countries exchanged missile strikes that destroyed property and caused civilian casualties, prompting Ghana to take precautionary steps to protect its citizens and diplomatic staff.

“The temporary closure of the Embassy of Ghana in Tehran was to guarantee the safety of the staff of the Mission during heightened tension between Iran and Israel,” the MFA said in a statement at the time.
Ongoing monitoring of security developments
While reopening the Embassy, the Ministry stressed that it would continue to monitor developments in the Middle East to ensure the safety of Ghanaian nationals.
“Notwithstanding this decision, the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the safety of the staff working in the Embassy and the Ghanaian community in Iran is not compromised,” it assured.
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Ghanaians updated on any developments that could affect their safety abroad.
