Liverpool boss coy on Alexander Isak transfer talk

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has kept his cards close to his chest regarding transfer speculation, especially around Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Reds had a £110 million bid rejected earlier in the window, but with Newcastle reportedly preparing to bring in Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade, the chances of Isak being allowed to leave have slightly increased. Newcastle are believed to want around £150 million for the Swedish striker, who is currently training alone after pushing for a move.

Slot open to right signing before deadline

When asked about the possibility of new signings before Monday’s deadline, Slot did not rule out further activity. He emphasized that Liverpool are only interested in “the right player for the right money.” He said, “We try to sign players that can help us, but there’s no reason after the first two games to complain. If we can strengthen, we will try, but there are only a few days left. Let’s see if we do something.”

Newcastle’s situation may open the door

Slot acknowledged Newcastle’s signing of a new striker, suggesting that it could make Eddie Howe’s side more flexible with Isak’s future. He noted that Anthony Gordon’s suspension and Isak’s limited training have put pressure on Newcastle, making the addition of another striker a timely move for them.

Fitness update ahead of Arsenal clash

Looking ahead to Sunday’s showdown with Arsenal, Slot confirmed there were no fresh injury worries following Monday’s intense battle with Newcastle. Virgil van Dijk came out unscathed after a reckless challenge from Gordon, while Conor Bradley has stepped up his training after returning to action. Alexis Mac Allister has also resumed full training. “I don’t think we had any injuries from that game. And Virgil is OK, which is the most important,” Slot reassured.

Arsenal’s set-piece threat a concern

Slot also touched on the tactical challenge of facing Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. He highlighted their dangerous set-pieces, admitting Liverpool must tighten up in that area after conceding from dead-ball situations in recent matches. “What stands out in a negative way is conceding four set-pieces, including the Bilbao game. Arsenal are really strong in that area, but they can also play many different styles. That shows how well managed they are,” Slot explained.

With the title race already taking shape, Sunday’s clash offers an early test of Liverpool’s ability to defend their crown, while the Isak transfer saga continues to hover in the background.
