A Ghanaian national, Kwadwo Boaitey Frimpong, is set to be deported from the United States following his conviction on multiple counts of possessing child pornography.
The 32-year-old entered the U.S. in 2019 on an F-1 student visa, which permits international students to pursue full-time academic studies at accredited institutions. According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Frimpong failed to maintain his status and instead engaged in criminal activity that led to his arrest and conviction.
In a statement released by the Department of Homeland Security on April 30, 2025, officials confirmed that Frimpong pleaded guilty to seven counts of child pornography possession. His arrest was carried out by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Baltimore, and he is currently being held in ICE custody pending deportation proceedings.
“On Tuesday, ERO Baltimore arrested Kwadwo Boaitey Frimpong, a 32-year-old citizen of Ghana,” the official statement read. “Frimpong was arrested and convicted on 7 counts of possession of child pornography. He will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of removal proceedings.”
Authorities said the case underscores the importance of visa compliance and strict enforcement of immigration laws. Under U.S. law, individuals on nonimmigrant visas who are convicted of serious crimes become subject to removal.

The F-1 visa program includes a 60-day grace period following the completion of a student’s academic programme, during which time they must either depart the U.S., transfer to another institution, or change their visa status. Frimpong’s failure to adhere to the terms of his stay, coupled with his conviction, triggered enforcement action by federal immigration authorities.
Officials reiterated that ICE remains committed to identifying, arresting, and removing noncitizens who pose a threat to public safety.
