West Ham Wins Again, Leicester Struggles
West Ham celebrated two wins in a row, and Tomas Soucek had a great game on his 30th birthday. On the other hand, Leicester is feeling the heat in the relegation zone after a poor showing against West Ham. Leicester’s Relegation Fears Worsen.
Soucek scored a goal, thanks in part to a mistake from Leicester’s Jannik Vestergaard, who scored an own goal. This gave West Ham a solid 2-0 win. Leicester has been on a rough path, losing 11 of their last 12 games, with their last four losses by a scary score of 12-0. A win could have brought them closer to safety, but they didn’t capitalize on their chances.
Ten years ago, Leicester made a big comeback when they were seven points behind, starting with a key win against West Ham. Now, the gap is just five points, but this team looks far less strong and inspired.
Soucek Shines as Leicester’s Defense Fails
West Ham took the lead just 20 minutes in. Aaron Cresswell fired a shot from 20 yards, and Vestergaard could have stopped it but let it through. The ball hit Mohammed Kudus and bounced back. Soucek was there to tap it in.
Before halftime, Leicester’s defense fell apart more. Jamie Vardy missed a chance to clear a corner, which led to Jarrod Bowen getting the ball. Bowen dribbled along the line and his shot hit Vestergaard and went into the net. Although Bowen scored in the last match, this goal went down as an own goal.
Leicester Lacks Fight in Second Half
In the second half, Leicester made a few attacks but didn’t threaten much. Vardy’s shot went wide, and Vestergaard headed the ball right at West Ham’s keeper, Alphonse Areola. Leicester’s Relegation Fears Worsen.
Near the end of the match, West Ham brought on Evan Ferguson, who just joined the team in January. He had a chance to score, but Wout Faes blocked his shot.
When the final whistle blew, it marked West Ham’s first back-to-back league wins since March. It looks like new manager Graham Potter is starting to get the team on track. But Leicester’s lackluster play made this one of West Ham’s easiest wins this season.
