Gospel musician Jak Alolome has disclosed that, despite receiving a sizable financial offer, he turned down a proposal from the New Patriotic Party.
Before the elections on December 7, he released a song as part of the National Democratic Congress campaign.
When asked why he wrote a song for the NDC, the singer said that it was just a business decision because he is a businessman who cares about the welfare of other people in a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show.
Because he was concerned about the well-being of the average Ghanaian, he declined an offer from NPP officials and joined the NDC to aid in their fight against the current administration.
“Last year, they held my hand and took me to the NPP camp and offered a huge amount of money to join their campaign team, but I declined because the economy is hard now. I’m a businessman, and that’s because the welfare of many people is my concern. I get to eat when they eat, and now those people are complaining,” he told Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s morning show.
Although Mr. Alolome did not state how much, he feels that Ghanaians are being taken advantage of by the NPP government for their own financial gain. He joined the NDC in order to support their efforts to keep the NPP from holding onto power for this reason.
The artist previously stated that he did not make the decision to perform the campaign song for NDC presidential candidate John Mahama for financial gain in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.

He said that he sang the song “JM Begye Yen” voluntarily in order to uphold Mahama’s ideals. However, he stated that he wouldn’t turn down any kind of recognition that comes with the song’s release.
Jak Alolome stated that since the NPP took over for the eight years in government, things have gotten harder, drawing comparisons between the NDC government and the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
“Nana Addo told us that Mahama’s administration was bad and he (Nana Addo) was going to bring us a better economy to make us comfortable. So, we voted Mahama out. But since he came into power, the petrol I buy compared to Mahama’s time is very bad. If I’m to weigh the works of Mahama and Nana Addo’s government as Dr. Bawumia is to take over, then Mahama has to come.”
Over the years, a number of other singers, including Nacee, Wayoosi, Mr. Beautiful, and Jewel Ackah, have written songs for the NDC. Additionally, songs for the NPP have been written by singers such as Diana Asamoah, Omane Acheampong, Ofori Amponsah, and Daddy Lumba.
