The Ministry of Labor and Employment Relations (MLER), in conjunction with the Fair Wages Commission, is set to meet today with the leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association Ghana (CETAG) and other key stakeholders in response to the ongoing strike.
The meeting will include representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Director of Tertiary Education from the Ministry of Education, Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and the Head of the Public Financial Management Unit (CPMU).
The primary agenda is to address the concerns raised by CETAG members, who have been on a nationwide strike for two months, causing a complete halt in academic activities across all 46 Colleges of Education in the country.
CETAG initiated their strike on June 14, 2024, citing the government’s failure to implement arbitral awards and other service conditions.
The strike has left trainees in all 46 Colleges of Education stranded, with their academic progress severely impacted.
As the strike enters its second month, there have been calls to close the Colleges of Education, but the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has stated that no such decision has been made.
