The third phase of the housing programme for security services, initiated in 2018, has been completed and commissioned for the police service.
Located in Tesano, the project, which comprises 320 homes includes seven blocks of two-bedroom apartments and thirteen blocks of three-bedroom apartments, with each block housing sixteen units.
This substantial effort aims to address the housing deficit and enhance the living conditions of public service workers.
Delivering his address at the inauguration, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the benefits of the housing projects for the security services and the nation as a whole.
“By providing these modern, well-equipped housing facilities, we aim to improve the quality of life for officers, men, and women of the police service, and help create a conducive environment that motivates them and enhances their operational readiness.
According to the President, the project will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the police community, serving as a model for other security services and illustrating the government’s dedication to delivering high-quality housing solutions that meet current standards of comfort, sustainability, and safety.”
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, expressed that this initiative aligns with page 25 of the President’s 2016 manifesto.
“This project here at Tesano was commenced in 2019 with the objective of providing decent accommodation for members of our security services, having completed phase two of the security services housing project in 2018. The 2018 project, situated at the Eastern Naval Command in Tema, helped to ameliorate the housing challenges confronting the Ghana Navy” ,Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said.
The Inspector General of Police {IGP}, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, lauded President Akufo-Addo for prioritizing the welfare of the police service.
Describing the President as a “legacy President,” the IGP outlined some of the legacies and contributions made by the President since assuming office.
“The first one, Mr. President, is to look at the volume of logistics you have provided to us, prominent among them are vehicles including over 4,000 motorbikes spread across the length and breadth of this country. That is historic and it is one of your legacies that we will be forever grateful. The next one is where we’ve been able to deploy policing to the doorsteps of communities which have never seen policing.
“Such that now police has come so close to the doorsteps of the communities and the members of the communities in such a way that it has affected the dynamics of crime in this country and Ghana has become one of the most peaceful countries in the world”.
