36 cases of Dengue Fever have been confirmed from the Eastern and Central Regions as of today 17th July 2024, with most patients recovering at home.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) revealed this in a statement adding that many more samples from the suspected cases are being investigated at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).
According to GHS, healthcare workers detected the cases within communities using an appropriate Case Definition.
They note that the patients recovering at home are stable; only one was admitted and has now been discharged.
The GHS therefore urged the public to report any symptoms of Dengue they may experience emphasizing they ought not self-medicate when they have high-grade fever.
Additionally, to prevent the spread of Dengue, the public is encouraged to take precautions against mosquito bites by wearing protective clothing, using mosquito repellents, covering water containers and discarding any standing water.
Using Insecticide-treated bed nets is also strongly advised for outdoor sleeping.
The Ghana Health Service emphasized it is working closely with local authorities in affected communities to contain the spread of Dengue.
