Rapper Sarkodie, a multiple award winner from Ghana, recently addressed the urgent problem of the nation’s music licensing system at a panel discussion at the 3i Africa Summit Partners and Stakeholders Mixer in Accra, offering a simple fix.
Accompanied by notable individuals from the creative sector, including as media personality KOD, Chief Moomen, and director Juliet Asante, Sarkodie illuminated the obstacles that artists encounter in obtaining their just compensation because there isn’t a formalized royalty framework.
Sarkodie emphasized during the conversation how easy it is to put in place a formalized mechanism to make sure that musicians are fairly compensated for their work.
He clarified that all that was needed to improve the inadequate royalty system was the creation of a reliable system for keeping track of and allocating royalties.

“The royalty system has been a big issue here in Ghana, but there’s not much that can be done about it,” Sarkode stated. “It’s not that hard; it’s just putting the system in place and getting the money back.”
In order to address the issues affecting Ghana’s music business, the panel discussion’s main focus was on examining the convergence of the Creative business, Policy, and Fintech.
Therefore, Sarkodie’s support for a better music royalties system is indicative of a larger initiative within the creative sector to guarantee that musicians are fairly compensated for their work.
