Rotation
Mr Lord Commey, Director of Operations at the Presidency and Chairman of the event’s National Planning Committee, stated that in 2017, President Akufo-Addo decided to rotate the location of the independence celebration, which had hitherto exclusively been held in Accra, the national capital.
He stated that the rotation was intended to promote the economy of the various areas and expose them to the outside world.
Mr Commey praised the occasion as significant, saying it will showcase the Eastern Region and its rich culture to the rest of the globe.
Mr Commey expressed satisfaction with the progress made at the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre and hoped that this year’s event will be the finest yet.
Local economy
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, was pleased that the area had been chosen for the national event, as it would promote the region’s economy and rich culture to the rest of the globe.
He stated that appropriate preparations had been done to ensure a beautiful and successful event.
As the President’s representative in the region, the minister expressed pride in being a part of the historic occasion.
He praised the President for selecting the region for the occasion and emphasized his commitment to national development.
Mr Acheampong urged the public, chiefs, queenmothers, political parties, youth organizations, traders, and craftsmen, among others, to help make the celebration memorable.
