In order to foster growth in the vital areas of housing, human settlements, and urban development in both countries, the Ministries of Works and Housing and Human Settlements of South Africa and Ministry of Works and Housing of Ghana have decided to collaborate.
According to the two ministries, this shows how committed South Africa and Ghana are to tackling the intricate issues surrounding housing and human settlements.
The promise was made last Wednesday, October 25, during a bilateral meeting in Accra between Francis Asenso-Boakye, the minister of works and housing in Ghana, and Mmamoloko Kubayi, the minister of housing and human settlements in South Africa.
Duty tour
The South African Minister is in Ghana on an official visit as part of initiatives to strengthen relations, forge new avenues, and investigate opportunities for cooperation between the two nations in the fields of housing delivery and other human settlement development.
The visit comes after productive talks between the ministers of the respective sectors in South Africa and Poland, which established the necessity of looking into possible partnerships, especially with regard to strengthening the institutional frameworks for housing delivery in both nations.

Ms Kubayi is due to meet with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of her official tour in Ghana, and then participate in a business event held by the Ghana Investments Promotion Centre for housing industry participants from both nations.
Innovative solutions
Mr Asenso-Boakye welcomed his visitor and stated that the challenges involved in housing delivery required not just immediate attention, but also new solutions necessitated by shared obligations from governments.
“Our joint efforts in pressing issues of slum upgrading, improvement in informal settlements and the lives of those who inhabit them can have profound impact on the well-being and living conditions of a significant portion of our populations,” Mr Asenso-Boakye, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, said.
Collaboration
According to Ms. Kubayi, the South African government was prepared to dedicate itself to the new partnership that aimed to address the numerous challenges associated with housing delivery.
“To us, this partnership and commitments also include sharing of experiences, knowledge and best practices in the housing sectors of our countries and how we can practicalise the implementations of what we seek to commit,” Ms Kubayi added.
