In a proactive move to ensure the health and safety of consumers during the Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebrations, the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has introduced a new street food vendor permit.

The permit to enhance the oversight and regulation of food vendors operating during the festive occasion.

According to an officer of the Food and Drug Authority (FDA), Central Region, Mr. Eric Opoku Kwarteng, the introduction of the street food vendor permit underscores their commitment to ensuring that all food sold during the Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebrations is safe for consumption.

He notes that this is to recognize and safeguard public health in terms of the potential health risks associated with street food consumption.

Speaking exclusively in an interview on the ATLFM’s Atlantic Wave, he said they want both residents and visitors to enjoy the festivities without any concerns about the quality and safety of the food they consume.

The permit, according to him, was done in collaboration with the municipal assembly and the environmental health officers.

He advised all and sundry saying “So every street food vendor needs to have this certification called the street food vending permit. So before you even go to the waakye seller, ask questions; Do you have a street food vendor permit? If the person doesn’t have, you can’t be assured of the safety of the food you are about to eat”.

He, therefore, called on residents and visitors to be watchful at every eatery joint as such permits are visibly displaced at such joints.

He reiterated that all must prioritize their health and well-being.
