Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, Dean of School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana has lamented how women are underrepresented in the field of project management.
Thus, she has urged participants of the 1st International Project Management Boot Camp to be advocates for women in the profession so they are also represented in the counter of activities and in the decisions that are made.
According to the President of Women in Project, a group that falls under the Institute of Project Management Professionals Ghana (IPMP), more needs to be done to get more women involved in this important sector.
“Project management is about problem-solving. If we are going to solve the problems of the future for ourselves, our country and the world, we need to have the voice of women also represented,” she added.
Prof. Kaufmann believes that when there is inclusive decision-making in problem-solving, the best solutions to the problems of the world are found.
“And so, we cannot afford to continue having this underrepresentation,” she continued.
Prof Effah Kaufmann was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 1st International Project Management Boot Camp which took place on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium, University of Cape Coast (UCC).
At the end of the three-day conference, the over 290 participants are expected to have their project management skills sharpened through knowledge sharing and networking.
The Boot Camp covers subject areas such as Engineering Project Management, Project Procurement Best Practices, Project Life Cycle, Initiation and Score planning, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Financing and Project Management Code of Ethics and Conduct.
The three-day Boot Camp will end on Friday, August 25, 2023.
It is being organized by the Institute of Project Management Professionals (IPMP), Gyam Institute of Technology and Industrialization (GITI) and Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).
