Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto says the NPP party cannot break the 8 with half an egg.
As such he has called on all well-meaning Ghanaians and especially NPP delegates who have the power to elect who to lead the party to render their support in ensuring the New Patriotic Party wins the elections come December 2024.
“It has to be the full egg and everybody in this party is important in this respect, especially the delegates who have been given the constitutional powers to choose a flagbearer of this party.”
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto said this after he filed his nomination forms at the party’s headquarters today, Monday, June 19, 2023.
According to him, the large crowd that has characterized the NPP flagbearership race brings no fear to him as he believes majority of the delegates will help him in achieving his dream of leading the party.
“I hope that at the end of the day, we will be given the opportunity for delegates to listen to us and make the right choice so that this party can retain power come 2024,” he said.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto further emphasized saying“…everybody who has come here including representatives of farmers, are here on their own accord, You cannot see any bused crowd or any big commercial vehicle bringing people to come and support…People have come on their own volition and own conviction that my candidature will be good for the people of Ghana and the NPP and I am very grateful.”
Meanwhile, NPP presidential aspirant, Dr. Konadu Apraku was turned away for presenting incomplete nomination forms at the NPP party headquarters when he filed his nominations.
The Director of Communications for his campaign team, Kwame Obiri Nkansah is quoted to have said that the aspirant’s personal contribution to the party, and his CV were not included.
He said “The process is a simple one. We left something out and the Chairman of the committee has asked us to add it. They are asking for his personal contribution to the party, and his CV. We thought that one was not necessary because everybody knew what he has done but that is the request, so we want to go and add those things,”
He, however, said they are hopeful they will present the completed forms by Friday or Saturday.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to hold its Special Delegates Congress on 16th August 2023 where five presidential aspirants will be selected to contest for the flagbearership position on December 4, 2023.
