The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set Wednesday, May 3, 2023, for the opening of nominations for the upcoming Assin North by-election in the Central Region.
The nomination is however set to close on Thursday, June 1, 2023, with the by-election to be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
The steering committee of the NPP approved these timelines for the Assin North by-election in a meeting yesterday May 30, 2023.
As such, interested qualified persons wanting to contest the Assin North Parliamentary seat are to pick up nomination forms at the Constituency Party Office for purchase.
Meanwhile, the NPP party says, they have approved detailed rules and regulations to govern the conduct of the by-election.
Parliament on May 29 corresponded with the Electoral Commission (EC) to signify the absence of a representative for the Assin North district.
This void necessitated a special election.
The apex court had directed Parliament to eliminate James Gyakye Quayson’s name from its archives after establishing that he did not relinquish his Canadian citizenship when submitting his nomination papers to run for the elections.
