Authorities in Ghana have arrested a human trafficking syndicate in Accra in a joint operation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Police Service.
The operation led to the arrest of 49 Nigerian nationals, consisting of 47 males and two females, aged between 18 and 34.
The four alleged traffickers, identified as Godstine Omoruyi, Junior Nosa Omoruyi, Marvelous Omoruyi, and Evbuomwan Idowu, have been arraigned before the court to face legal proceedings.
They were arrested after EOCO obtained intelligence that some young Nigerians had been trafficked into the country.
According to EOCO, the suspects have been involved in human trafficking and cybercrime-related activities.
They are said to have also resorted to various forms of physical torture and abuse to coerce their victims into subjection.
During the operation, 70 laptop computers, two saloon cars, 51 mobile phones, nine internet modems, and other devices were recovered from their hideout.
Further investigation revealed that 45 of the suspects were victims of human trafficking, while the remaining four were identified as traffickers.
Meanwhile, in a bid to reunite the rescued victims with their families, they have been deported to Nigeria.
the victims were lured into the country with the promise of jobs but upon arrival into the country, they were forced to engage in cybercrime-related activities.
