The Christian Council of Ghana has re-echoed the need for the Church in Ghana to continue to have goodwill towards the communities where they are respectively planted.
It is believed that the Church in Ghana has played and continues to play a significant role in nation-building through character formation, provision of social services such as schools, clinics, hospitals, agricultural extension, and above all, winning souls for the kingdom of God.
According to the Director for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations of the Christian Council of Ghana, Reverend Abraham Opoku Baffour, when the Church in Ghana continues to do these things; meeting the needs of the communities they neighbour and contribute their quota to address societal problems, it will deepen the presence of the Church in Ghanaian communities so the Church is not taken for granted.
“…we should have the goodwill of the community where we worship. If that goodwill will come, then it means that we would have extended our hand to the community so that our Church, our jurisdiction, does not end with the four corners of the building. Our jurisdiction is the whole of the community where we have been posted to as a pastor or where I have established my Church as a pastor…” he said.
Rev. Opoku Baffour indicated that churches can also be visiting prisons, hospitals, and schools among others to make donations and support the needy as these activities will also help to deepen the church’s presence in the community.
He was speaking at the Church of Pentecost, Adisadel Central Branch located at Staff Quarters in Cape Coast during a seminar organized by the Christian Council of Ghana for leaders of the Local Council of Churches and Para-Church Organizations based in the Central Region.
Rev. Baffour was of the view that in an era where there is much moral decadence, the Church has the responsibility of coming together to teach the public the need to uphold moral values.
He said the churches must especially play their role in dealing with LGBTQ educational issues within their jurisdictions.
To him, government and parliament are doing their parts and the churches must also do their part regarding such issues in the country.
