A Professor of Environmental Health and Sustainability Science at the University of Cape Coast, Prof Frederick Ato Armah has intimated that although education is a prerequisite for development in every country, it is the responsibility of all to ensure that children get holistic education.
According to him, holistic training is balanced and involves teaching children what is right and wrong.
Speaking on Instilling Discipline in Today’s Child: The Role of School and Home’ at the 2023 Awards Day celebration of Calvary Hill Crest Schools in Cape Coast, he revealed that training a child is not the sole responsibility of parents but schools, society, teachers, and learners.
Prof Ato Armah further stated that knowledge is what helps children to understand and analyze every situation that may be presented to them.
“Holistic training is balanced and typically has a threefold focus the head, the heart, and the hand…They must know what is right, what is wrong, know historical facts, and they must know the scientific theory. So knowledge is one of all elements when it comes to the training of the head, then we must also help them to understand. Understanding is definitely one of the things that we need to help them have,” he continued.
The understanding according to him includes an understanding of historical facts, of society, and the values that society holds.
Headmaster for Calvary Hill Crest Schools, Mr. Paul Kobina Essandoh speaking on the Awards day said awards are a way to encourage good behavior and inculcate competitive spirit among students.
According to him, the school has always provided its students with a healthy and fairly competitive environment to help them grow in every sphere of activity.
He added that equal opportunities are given to all our learners so that they realize their true potential and get ready to face the world.
He, therefore, advised students who could not win awards not to lose hope since they will be given more opportunities to perform better in the next academic term.
