The 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is set to take place on Monday, July 31, and end on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

At a press conference to announce the date, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC -Ghana Office, Mrs. Agnes Teye Cudjoe said the Council has opened the portal for the registration of the 2023 WASSCE candidates in Senior high schools (SHS) and it will be closed on Wednesday, 19 April 2023.

The examination, which will once again be a Ghana-only version of the WASSCE final timetable will be made available to all SHS schools and published on the WAEC websites as well.

According to Mrs. Teye Cudjoe, the approved WAEC registration fee for entry in 7 or 8 WASSCE subjects is GH¢ 381.24p exclusive of the fees for the practical or Oral test and GH¢170.10p for the BECE entry fee.

Also, the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both school and Private candidates will be concurrently administered from Monday 7th to Friday, 11th August 2023.

The registration portal for the registration of eligible BECE candidates will open from Monday, 27th March to Friday, 28th April 2023.

Mrs. Teye Cudjoe indicated that access arrangements will be provided for candidates with special educational needs.

“The council will make test accommodation arrangements for candidates who cannot be assessed by the standard procedures set out because of disability or special educational needs…Requests for access arrangements for special needs candidates, with accompanying medical reports, should be forwarded to the council by Tuesday, May 2, 2023,” she said.

She added the council will hold briefing sessions for all stakeholders who will be involved in the registration of candidates from Tuesday 21st March to Friday, 24th of March 2023.

Mrs. Teye Cudjoe further recounted that it is important for all candidates to ensure that their bio-data is captured accurately and duly registered for the correct subjects.

She however cautioned heads of the various schools against the registration of unqualified candidates which could lead to the nullification of a candidate’s results.

She also raised concern about schools commercializing the registration processes and cautioned those raising banners and charging exorbitant fees while enticing prospective students with a promise of good grades to put a stop to it or face the law.
