In order to support the department’s operations, the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul- Hamid has donated some office equipment worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to the Department of Religion and Human Values at the University of Cape Coast.
The items donated include 20 computers, 10 printers, 2 scanners, 2 workstations, and 2 file cabinets.
In a statement read on his behalf by the Director of Policy Coordination at NPA, Sheila Abiemo, Dr. Mustapha Abdul- Hamid who doubles as a senior lecturer at the Department indicated that since its inception 50 years ago, the department has upheld its mandate of exposing students to diverse enduring values, philosophies, and principles that immensely contribute to society.
He noted that the department had played a critical role in nurturing him into the person he is today and thus, the donation was a small token to show appreciation for the department’s investment in him.
He said it is through the walls of the university of Cape Coast that he has obtained the feat of being the CEO of NPA, a media practitioner, an Advertising Executive, and a Lecturer.
“I was also Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson and Minister responsible for Inner City and Zongo Development. And let it be clear, that my training here at the Department of Religion and Human Values had and still has a lot to do with my life’s achievements.” He added.
He intimated that his passion for teaching is endless as he will make a comeback to the department to fulfill his calling as a teacher.
“I am still a member of this faculty…my name is emblazoned on the door to the office in which I sat as a lecturer. I have told the head of the department never to take that name tag off, and possibly never to assign that office to another lecturer. I SHALL BE BACK. Teaching is my life’s calling and I intend to live that calling to my grave” he added.
Provost of the college of humanities and legal studies, Prof. Kwame Osei- Kwarteng who received the donation expressed gratitude on behalf of staff and students in the department and assured that the items would be used for its intended purpose.
On her part, the Head of the Department of Religion and Human Values, Rev. Sr. (Dr.) Alice Matilda Nsiah indicated that the donation had come in timely especially since the department had just celebrated its 50th anniversary.
She further called on benevolent organizations and past students to be philanthropic toward the department.
