The College of Distance Education at the University of Cape Coast has donated some items worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to the St. Clare Home of the Padre-Pio Rehabilitation Center in Ahotokrom in the Cape Coast Metropolis.
The items included clothes, boxes of canned fish, bags of rice, and gallons of cooking oil among others.
The donation forms part of CoDE’s social responsibility to assist the most vulnerable in society and also to mark the 60th anniversary of the University of Cape Coast.
Presenting the items on behalf of CoDE, the Provost of the college, Prof. Anokye Mohammed Adam indicated that the gesture is to help the orphans to have a sense of belonging in society.
According to him, showing love and affection to the vulnerable should not be occasional but an all-year-round activity Christians especially must embark on.
He assured the continuous support of CoDE to the facility.
Receiving the items, the Director of the Orphanage, Dr. Mark Moses Mantey expressed appreciation for the kind gesture and promised to use the items for their intended purpose.
The College also donated some items to support the maternity department of the UCC Hospital.
The items included assorted food items such as sardines, mackerel, cooking oil, toiletries, shoes, boxes of biscuits, undergarments, and clothes.
At a short event, the Provost of CoDE, Prof. Anokye Muhammed Adam indicated that the maternity ward was a critical section of the hospital and hence the contribution was made in order to enhance the activities of the maternity ward.
The Nurse Manager, Mr. Thomas Tamag was grateful to CoDE for the donation, stating that it was timely as the facility is in need of assistance to enhance health delivery.
He was hopeful that the gesture would be a recurring one.
