The Campus Broadcasting Service (CBS) at the University of Cape Coast has honoured Mr. Samuel Richard Marcourt, a full-time permanent staff who has retired from active service at a short send-off ceremony at the Centre’s premises.
The brief ceremony held on July 29 was in honor of his dedicative service and contributions to the Centre’s success story.
Mr. Marcourt served in various capacities at the university before retiring as the Purchasing Officer of CBS.
The send-off was climaxed with the presentation of an undisclosed amount of cash, the unveiling of a portrait, and the cutting of cake to bid him farewell.
Presenting the cash on behalf of management and staff, the Manger of CBS, Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu congratulated him on his retirement, noting that his efforts had made an impact not just in his department but throughout the Centre.
According to him, Mr. Marcourt’s retirement is symbolic since it is the first time a full-time staff of the Centre had retired.
“It is significant because ATLFM (CBS) since its establishment has not had a full-time staff who is going on retirement. Mostly you see people who have come to sacrifice to bring the station up not necessarily as full-time staff, so for Mr. Marcourt it is very symbolic and unique. So we celebrate you and we thank you very much for being part of the family,” he said
The manager of CBS also hailed the first retiree for his humble nature even in the midst of his young colleagues.
“Even though you were the oldest here, we didn’t see that life where you wouldn’t want to take instruction from even young ones who either were leaders or whatever capacity. We are hoping that even as you go, you step forward, another chapter in your life is going to see more blessings for your family, for yourself.”
On his part, Mr. Marcourt shared some fondest memories of the center and expressed appreciation to the management and staff of CBS for the thoughtful gesture.
He said it is his hope that CBS continues to chalk more successes.
