The National Executive Council of the Senior Staff Association Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association (FUSSAG) have temporarily suspended the industrial strike action which began on July 13, 2022.
In a letter issued on 26th July 2022, the association noted that various interventions made by the Ministers of Education, Employment, and Labour Relations led to the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement on 25th July 2022.
The Memorandum of Agreement adds “resulted in a road map that serves as a guide to ensure fairness in a speedy resolution of all the impasse between both parties.”
The association indicated the decision has been consented to by its National Executive Council who said they will continue to engage stakeholders to ensure the resolve of their concerns.
ATLFMNEWS sighted a copy of the Memorandum of Agreement in which government has committed to addressing the issues of the association including Tier 2 pensions and all related matters including interest, Occupational Pension Scheme (USOPS), generic allowances and conditions of service as well as the University-Specific grievances for redress all within 30 days.
The parties have therefore resolved to reconvene on 28th July 2022 to begin negotiations on the demands by the association.
As such staff of the association and FUSSAG have been directed to resume work on Wednesday, 27th July 2022.
In an interview with ATLFMNEWS on this new development, President for the SSA-UoG, UCC Local, Mr. Sandy Kumi-Sinatra noted that the suspension of the strike is to afford government and other concerned stakeholders the time to address their concerns.
He however said the association will not fail to continue the industrial strike action if their demands are not met within the 30 days as the suspension is only temporal.
